Sustainable simplifies how companies of all sizes — from startups to industry conglomerates – manage and report on ESG.

Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) is a framework that was created for incentivizing companies and investors to consider broader societal impacts like climate change, inequality, and other social issues in their strategy, execution, and analysis. Over the past few years ESG has become a top agenda item for many business leaders, but managing and reporting on ESG has become more complex by the day.

We believe ESG can help companies manage risk and create social impact, but to fulfill its potential, it must be simplified. Sustainable was founded in 2021 to exactly that.

Founding Engineer

As we continue to add more clients to the Sustainable Platform, we are looking to expand our engineering team.

We are looking for a founding engineer to assist our current team with building enterprise applications, datasets, and other tools that continue to delight our customers. You'll work with a tight team of engineers and designers that are rapidly building new features and scaling products.

Our corporate hub is in Miami, but are open to full time remote work on the east coast of the United States as well.

The Type of Person We Are Looking For:

High Energy: we are very excited about the problem we are solving and the company we are building. We want people who are equally excited to be a part of a fast scaling startup. This means high energy and positivity is expected from day 1.

Flexible: we are a startup and are moving very fast. If you are looking for a linear roadmap that does not change much over weeks and months, or a role that has a repeatable set of responsibilities this is not the place for you. We are very clear on our vision, but are iterative on the steps that we take to get there. Everyone on our team is expected to wear multiple hats. We are looking for people that are excited by this opportunity.

Ambitious: we aim to build a category defining company. We believe doing so will drive meaningful progress towards addressing climate change and social inequality – which are two of the major problems of our time. We want people who are attracted to this level of ambition and are willing to put the work in to make it happen.

Communication: we do not keep our engineers hidden behind monitors. We know that this might ding productivity a bit, but believe strongly that the builders must vividly understand the problems of customers. To do this well everyone on our team must have strong verbal and written skills.

Self Driven: If you are looking for a role where you are told exactly what to do all day, this is not the company for you. We will clearly outline the ‘what’, but are looking for creative people who are excited about figuring out the ‘how.’ You will be expected to contribute to company strategy and product roadmaps - not just take orders.

Our Stack:

  • Our platform is primarily built in React, using Typescript and Tailwind for styling.
  • Our frontend and backend systems are connected via a REST API,
  • Our stack, end to end: React, NextJS, Typescript, Laravel, Heroku, PostgresSQL & Redis

Key Requirements:

  • 2+ years experience in frontend development
  • Familiarity with the React ecosystem
  • Working knowledge of JavaScript, TypeScript and CSS
  • Familiarity collaborating using Git
  • A pixel-perfect eye for UI and a passion for building user interactions
  • Experience working on production software for smaller startups

Bonus Points:

  • Experience working in data-visualization and libraries like D3.js or similar

Product Designer

As Sustainable’s first product designer, you will be a driving force in defining our product strategy & user experience. You'll have a massive role in influencing our growth & success.

You might be a fit if:

  • You have a strong portfolio demonstrating generalist design skills.
  • You have experience driving the product design lifecycle from end to end.
  • You have specific design taste and are detail oriented.
  • You enjoy interacting with customers.
  • You iterate quickly with short feedback loops.
  • You’re comfortable with change and ambiguity, and thrive working autonomously.
